Teck Cominco Limited is a diversified mining and metals company, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Teck Cominco is a world leader in the production of zinc and metallurgical coal and a significant producer of copper, gold and specialty metals.

The Duck Pond copper-zinc operation is located in central Newfoundland within the Exploits Valley Region 30 km from the closest community of Millertown and 100 km southwest of the town of Grand Falls-Windsor. Mining is carried out principally from underground utilizing ramp access at a rate of 1,800 tonnes of ore per day. A flotation mill processes the ore to produce copper and zinc concentrates for sale.

Mill Trainer/Supervisor

Reporting to the Mill General Foreman, the Mill Trainer/Supervisor will be responsible for providing operational, safety and environmental training to all mill personnel as well as:

  • Completing job observations, safety audits and analysis to assist with the development of safe working procedures, job descriptions and training modules
  • Forecasting training time required for new employees and ongoing training on new equipment and policy changes
  • Conducting corporate and job specific orientation on emergency procedures and health hazards related to milling, including dust and noise, accident prevention and investigation, the five-point safety system, inspection of workplace, and maintenance and safe operation of equipment
  • Maintaining work area in an organized, clean and safe condition
  • Applying and working in compliance with all norms, regulations, standard codes and laws in effect at Duck Pond operations and in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Implementing safe Policies and Procedures to operate all plant equipment
  • Training local workforce to operate an 1800 tpd crushing plant, grinding, flotation, and tailings in a safe and efficient manner
  • Managing and supervising operators

The successful candidate must have a post secondary education. Five (5) years copper/zinc/lead operations experience is required with demonstrated leadership, training, and interpersonal skills, as well as current knowledge of mill safety and environmental standards. Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel software are also required.
