:: Permax Magnetic Separator Improves DMS Medium Recovery
Developed to meet the needs of DMS (dense media separation) plants, the Permax wet drum magnetic separator offers increased specific capacity and improved media recovery.
Marketed and supported by leading mineral processing equipment supplier, Multotec Process Equipment, the innovative design of the Permax wet drum magnetic separator is characterised by higher field intensity, increased field gradient and homogenous field distribution.
The separator comprises a drum with a Strontium Ferrite magnet assembly designed in a radial pole configuration, a technology which was pioneered in South Africa by Magnapower ten years ago. The radial pole arrangement ensures a continuous magnetic field as the magnetic concentrate follows the path of the rotating drum shell, thereby reducing losses and maximising recovery.
The combination of the Permax magnet assembly with the specially designed counter-rotation tank further improves recoveries of magnetic material. Wetted parts are almost entirely manufactured in non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant stainless steel, which ensures long life under all operating conditions. The polished stainless steel outer surface requires no painting or other protection.
The tank has a full-length adjustable weir, and the amount of overflow water and the pulp level is controlled by the weir position in combination with easily replaceable, maintenance-friendly orifices placed in the underflow outlets.
The Permax drums are 915 mm in diameter, and are available with drum widths from 690 mm to 3740 mm in increments of 305 mm. The position of the drum in the tank is easily adjustable, either horizontally or vertically. It is driven by a shaft mounted geared motor unit which eliminates maintenance and parts associated with chain or belt driven units.
To facilitate optimum wear resistance and machine life, the drum shell is fitted with a stainless steel wear wrap as standard. Alternatively, all surfaces including tank and drum can be covered, with rubber or polyurethane. In addition, ceramic lining of all wetted surfaces, including the drum shell, is available.
For upgrading or refurbishments of existing machines, to achieve increased recovery and/or concentrate density, Permax magnet drums can be installed into existing tanks in either counter-rotation or concurrent configurations.
The Permax wet drum low intensity magnetic separator is suitable for the recovery of either magnetite or ferrosilicon.
