:: Osborn Wins Samira Hill Contract

A $900,000 (R6.8-million) contract has been awarded to Johannesburg-based bulk materials handling and minerals processing specialist Osborn by SML which recently announced the commencement of the Samira Hill gold-mining project in Niger. Osborn is to supply plant and equipment for the undertaking.

According to sales manager Noel Bessler, "Osborn's participation in the project includes the refurbishment of an existing Osborn mill, the supply of proprietary screens and feeders, including an apron feeder, and the supply of the plant's conveyors." The equipment, which will be manufactured at Osborn's Elandsfontein works, will be shipped to the Port of Tema in Ghana, and from there transported by road across Ghana into Niger.

Osborn netted this contact on the basis of the recent successful completion of a contract to supply equipment to the Kiniero Mine in Guinea, for customer ONA/Managem, which is the largest mining group in Morocco. The group is also a majority shareholder in the Samira Hill joint venture company, Semafo. SML (Société des Mines du Liptako) is a joint venture between the Republic of Niger (20%) and African Geomin Mining Development Corporation - AGMDC (80%). AGMDC is in turn a 50/50 joint venture between Etruscan Resources Inc and Semafo Inc, both Canadian listed companies.
