:: Detail Design of Rhino Minerals’ Andalusite Plant Bateman Engineering has provided Rhino Minerals (Pty) Ltd with a complete engineering and design package for a greenfields crushing and washing plant at its Segorong andalusite-processing facility near Penge in the Limpopo Province, RSA. The package comprised the engineering calculations and civil-, mechanical- and electrical-engineering designs required for the plant. A complete set of drawings, datasheets, process design criteria and all relevant documentation was supplied to the client. This turnkey project took five months to complete. The new crushing and washing facility will produce a clean pre-concentrate and discard the coarse fraction on a waste dump and the fines on a slimes dam. Both the dump and the slimes dam will have to be established on the site. The project will move into the construction phase once the site for the plant has been selected. The pre-concentrate containing the andalusite will be transported by truck to Rhino’s Annesley Andalusite Mine where it will pass through dense-medium separation (DMS) and dry-magnetic separation circuits to produce saleable products. Rhino Minerals is a world leader in the production of andalusite, most of which is produced in the Limpopo Province. Andalusite is used to produce refractory products used in kilns, furnaces, incinerators, etc.
