:: ABB Wins Contract for Copper Grinding Expansion Project in Armenia

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that it has won an order from FFE Minerals for the supply of drive systems for semi-autogenous (SAG) and ball mill main motors. End User of the copper grinding expansion project is Zangezour Mines, located in the most southern province of Armenia. This order is part of a major development program of Zangezour Mines, which will result in a production increase of 50 percent and in significant output enhancement.

The contract has become effective in August 2006 and has a value of =803.22 million. Installation and commissioning of the equipment will take place in the first quarter of 2008.

ABB's delivery comprises one fix speed ball mill drive system including one synchronous motor (6400kW, 200rpm) and one excitation unit. Also ABB supplies one variable speed, dual pinion SAG mill drive system including an ACS 6000 multidrive, two synchronous motors (4500kW, 160-213rpm) and one converter transformer.

The kind of technical solution which was chosen is about a pilot project. It is the first time that ABB delivers a dual pinion solution with a medium voltage ACS 6000 multidrive converter.
