With the intense campaign for value added oriented mineral industry, another nickel processing plant would be built soon. PT Bintang Delapan Group has signed an agreement with Dingxin Group, a chinese mining giant. The Chinese company has agreed to prepare approximately US$ 1 billion to build a nickel processing plant in Sulawesi. The plant would be able to process nickel into ferronickel (FeNi).

According to Halim Mina, President Director of PT Bintang Delapan Group, he has signed a Joint Venture agreement with Dingxin Group on 7 October 2009, in Jakarta. Dingxin involved in the joint venture with PT Bintang Delapan Group, as the owner of a Nickel Mining Authorization in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. “Dingxin has planned to invest US$ 1 billion," he said.

The Chinese company would control 55% of majority shares in the smelting industry joint venture. A five years period would be required to build the plant.

Meanwhile, the nickel mine in Morowali is currently in a dispute on overlapping area with PT Rio Tinto. Nevertheless, Halim claimed that he has earned the license, and has entered exploration phase. He expected that the mine could start producing 30,000 tons of nickel ore by next year. The product would entirely become an export commodity, that would be shipped to China.
