:: Bateman Clinches Uzbekistan Gold Contract

Bateman International has been awarded a $197.8 million contract to modernise the gold recovery complex at the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Kombinat in Uzbekistan. The project will increase plant throughput from 3 Mt/y to 5 Mt/y, and the gold output to 20 t/y, when full capacity is reached in 2005. Biomin Technologies SA, Gold Fields Ltd's wholly-owned subsidiary, will supply its BIOX® technology for treating refractory sulphide concentrates (currently the complex processes oxide ore). The BIOX plant, with a capacity of 2100 t/day, will be the world's largest. Bateman has also won a contract for a feasibility study on the Valsilkovskoye gold deposit in Kazakhstan, which is scheduled for completion early in 2003.
