:: Xstrata Technology Mineral Processing: To Central Asia and Beyond!
XT mineral processing technology is continuing to make in roads into Central Asia with several IsaMill™ and Jameson Cell projects being recently announced in the region.
Kazakhmys, a leading international natural resources group, and one of the largest copper producers worldwide, has selected IsaMil™l technology for copper regrind applications at their Aktogay and Bozshakol projects in Kazakhstan. Both projects will be installing complete IsaMill™ Packages, and will include two 3 MW M10,000 IsaMills™, feed and discharge pumpboxes, pumps, pipework, control system, steel work, commissioning support and XT’s proprietary IsaCharger™ media addition system.
Lindsay Clark, General Manager, Mineral Processing at XT, said: “We have been working with Kazakhmys for several years and the choice of our IsaMill™ technology for their major growth projects follows recent adoption of IsaMills™ into other copper regrinding duties such as operations in Laos, Australia, Canada, Russia and Peru”.
Lindsay also said that XT had been working in the Central Asian region with engineering companies such as such as Ausenco who understand IsaMill™ technology well. “Providing an XT package with a good engineering partner allows the client to get the advantages of energy efficient grinding and downstream processing advantage of inert media, in a streamlined project that can be completed on time and within budget”.
Rakan Rahbani, Regional Manager - Europe for XT, said the enquiries for the technology throughout Central Asia and Russia were running high. “Clients want grinding projects to deliver the highest energy efficiency possible. They want proof of the efficiency, they want to see accurate grinding testwork done for their project, and they need to compare the options available”
Xstrata Technology has installed its first small scale M4 IsaMill™ at the Saint Petersburg State University, which is identical to the small scale units used in Australia, Canada, Chile, Belgium and South Africa that are available for independent analysis for IsaMill™ grinding.
Small scale Jameson Cells have also been delivered in the region, including a L500 based at TOMC in Irkutsk that is available for site testwork. There is a smaller L150 installed at Suek’s LLC Siberian R&D Institute of Coal Washing (Sibniiugleobogaschenie) - a major coal institute based in the Kemerovo region in Siberia. Several Jameson Cell placements have also been made to other research centres of private companies as well, with the first full scale Jameson Cell installation in Kazakhstan being installed at ArcelorMittal’s Vostochnaya (2xJ6500/24), that will be used in a coal cleaning application.
