:: Weda Bay Revision

Weda Bay Minerals Inc. has received a revised prefeasibility study for its lateritic nickel-cobalt project on Halmahera Island, Indonesia. The new study was completed by Kvaerner Process (Australia) Pty Ltd and Hatch Associates Pty Ltd, and included investigating the use of nickel-bearing saprolite ore from the deposit to neutralise excess acid produced in the pressure acid leach process envisaged for the project.

The original prefeasibility study considered using limestone for the neutralisation, in a process designed to produce an average of 48,500 t/y of nickel and 4,600 t/y of cobalt over the mine life. The use of saprolite ore would extract additional nickel, leading to an average output of 60,000 t/y of nickel and 5,000 t/y of cobalt.
