:: Inco Plans Chinese Smelter

Scott Hand, Inco Ltd's chief executive, speaking at the company's annual general meeting in Toronto last week, said that Inco is to build a nickel-processing facility in China. The plant would be for the treatment of ore from its 85%-owned Goro project in New Caledonia, development of which was delayed by the company late last year.

Mr Hand indicated that the new facility would be similar in size to the operations of Korea Nickel Corp., in which Inco holds a 25% interest. Korea Nickel operates a 82,000 t/y plant at Onsan, importing feedstock from Inco.
