:: New Outokumpu SAG Mill Furthers Kingsgate’s Drive for Low-Cost Gold Production
The new high aspect SAG mill supplied by Outokumpu’s Grinding unit for Kingsgate Consolidated’s Chatree gold mine in Thailand is purpose-built to help the company maintain its position as one of the world’s lowest-cost gold producers.
The contract for the design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning of the new mill a month ahead of schedule follows the Grinding unit’s success in supplying, maintaining and optimising the performance of the original SAG mill at the Chatree mine, which opened two years ago to develop a 1.2 million ounce deposit.
Plant throughput will now be increased by over 50 per cent to more than 1.8 million tonnes a year, which, says Kingsgate Consolidated Managing Director Steve Reid, puts the company in an excellent position for the year ahead.
"Outokumpu’s Grinding unit has worked with Kingsgate to optimise mill performance since the original installation. We also provide ongoing maintenance advice and support to Kingsgate’s maintenance team."
"Ausenco Engineering won an IE Aust Engineering Excellence Award for Chatree and we have now worked very closely with the professional team at Ausenco on three projects in this area: the original Chatree mill, the recent Sepon project in Laos and this Chatree expansion."
In announcing the commencement of commissioning, Kingsgate’s Mr Reid thanked the primary contractors, Ausenco, Outokumpu and McConnell Dowell. "Not only did they do an excellent job but they completed the entire construction project around our operating plant without a single lost-time incident," he said.
The Chatree mill is the latest of some 30 purchase orders globally in countries as diverse as Germany, South Africa, Sweden, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.
