:: SNC-Lavalin Awarded Three Contracts for Work on Aluminum Smelter in Dubai

SNC-Lavalin has been awarded three contracts with Dubai Aluminum Company Ltd. (DUBAL) for work on its Jebel Ali aluminum smelter in Dubai. The total value of the contracts is approximately US $12 million.

The first contract is a feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the smelter's first three series of electrolytic cells, known as Potlines 1, 2 and 3. The other two contracts are to engineer and manage the construction of a seventh potline, and to provide the construction management for a new casthouse. SNC-Lavalin is acting as the client's Program Manager, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the projects' execution, including the joint selection of subcontractors. The feasibility study is already well underway, and work on Potline-7 and Casthouse-3 has begun. The contracts are scheduled to be completed in 2005.

DUBAL is expanding the capacity of its Jebel Ali smelter, considered one of the largest single site aluminum smelters in the world, to meet increased demands for its customers in the Far-East, the Middle-East, Europe, the ASEAN Region, the Mediterranean Region and the US. Once the work has been completed, the expanded smelter's capacity will increase from 686,000 tonnes/yr to 761,000 tonnes/yr.
