:: Rusal to Help Build Aluminum Smelter in Tajikistan Rusal will help build a 200,000 tpy aluminum smelter costing $600 million over five years in southern Tajikistan, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov said after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Dushanbe on Saturday. Rusal will also help to upgrade two divisions of the existing smelter in Tajikistan, the TadAZ smelter, Rakhmonov said. In all, the Russian aluminum giant will participate in projects worth more than $1 billion in Tajikistan. Rusal has said it plans to invest more than $10 billion in development between 2004 and 2014 and to build at least three new smelters.
