:: Metso to Boost Capacity
Somincor is trusting Metso when expanding their zinc plant in southern Portugal. The expansion is the first phase of larger investment in Somincor's zinc plant and it covers grinding, flotation and filtering equipment. The expansion is expected to double the processing capacity of the plant to 1 million tons a year by the second half of 2011.
Metso fleet on the site will cover two Vertimill VTM1250 grinding mills, 65 pumps and a TS screen, which will be delivered to the site by March 2011. Somincor has used Metso equipment also before, and have had good experiences in terms of plant availability. The recent investments in Metso equipment and services show their confidence and happiness towards Metso as a reliable partner.
Somincor is a subsidiary of Lundin Mining Corporation, a base metal mining company with significant reserves in copper, lead, zinc and nickel and with operations in Portugal, Spain and Sweden. Annually Somincor produces around 90,000 tons of copper metal and another 25,000 tons of zinc metal in concentrates from zinc ores. Somincor employs approximately 1,500 people in Portugal.
