:: Alcoa Favourite for new Icelandic Smelter

Reuters reports from Reykjavik that Alcoa Inc. of the US is expected to sign a deal to build a 380,000 t/y aluminium smelter in Iceland, according to the country's Industry Minister, Valgerdur Sverrisdottir. Alcoa has been negotiating with the Icelandic authorities regarding the smelter for some time, and its rival for the project, Norsk Hydro, withdrew earlier this week.
