:: UK Aluminium Smelter Expansion

Alcan Inc.'s Lynemouth aluminium smelter in the UK will achieve its expanded capacity of 175,000 t/y by the end of this year. The £28 million investment will raise production from the current 160,000 t/y capacity by allowing the use of larger anode blocks, which can sustain higher amperages, thereby also making the smelting process more energy efficient.
