:: Teck Cominco orders Gekko InLine Leach Reactor for Pogo

Gekko Systems has received an order for an InLine Leach Reactor (ILR) from diversified Canadian mining group Teck Cominco Limited. The unit, an ILR2000 batch automatic, has been ordered for the Pogo Project in Eastern Alaska. Teck Cominco is the operator and will earn a 40% interest in the project. The remainder is held by subsidiaries of Sumitomo Metal Mining (51%) and Sumitomo Corp (9%).

The Pogo project is currently under construction and is located 110 km South East of Fairbanks, Alaska. It will be developed as a 2,500 ton per day underground gold mine and mill producing 350,000 to 500,000 ounces of gold per year for 10 years and to employ approximately 300 people. The deposit consists of a quartz vein system containing disseminated sulphides, with the primary sulphide mineral being arsenopyrite.

The ILR Gekko is supplying the Pogo project will treat medium grade gravity cleaner scavenger tailings and the recovery is expected to be 97% or higher based on test work completed by Gekko.

The flowsheet was developed by Teck Cominco and was designed to minimize the environmental impact of the gold recovery process. The flowsheet consists of a SAG/ball mill grinding circuit, gravity concentration, intensive cyanidation, sulphide flotation with ultrafine re-grinding of the flotation concentrate and leach/CIP recovery of gold from the reground concentrate. Gekko was selected as the supplier of the intensive cyanidation unit because the ILR is capable of leaching very fine gold at ambient temperatures and because of the increased recovery given by the unit's well mixed reaction zone.
