:: Crushing Six for Western Australia

BJD Crushers Ltd, one of the UK’s leading crushing machinery manufacturers, has supplied six BJD Hammermill units for pulverising coal at a new co-generation power plant being built in Western Australia.

The crushers have been supplied through Brightwater - an engineering, construction and project management company, headquartered in New Zealand - as part of a $500million AE&E Australia contract to build a co-generation power plant at the Worsley Alumina refinery, near Collie in Western Australia.

Using the Bayer Process, the refinery extracts metallurgical grade alumina which is used as a feedstock for aluminium smelting. The Powerhouse project at the refinery comprises two 340 tonnes per hour Circulating Fluidised Bed boiler units that will primarily burn coal, but will also be able to burn up to 30% waste wood product.

The BJD Hammermills supplied are 24x20 machines and, installed in two banks of three, will provide ‘round-the-clock’ size reduction of coal to feed each of the two boilers. Designed for a throughput of more than 27 tonnes per hour, the BJD Hammermills will produce a minus 8mm product from an infeed of upto 50mm. Over the years, BJD Hammermills have acquired an enviable reputation for being reliable, efficient machines for size reduction of friable and fibrous materials. Their rugged construction and high reduction ratios make them ideally suited to continuous-duty size reduction of coal; often being employed as primary units when two-stage reduction is required.

BJD Hammermills are part of a complete range of processing and recycling equipment from BJD Crushers Ltd, which includes Impactors, Double Roll Crushers, Mud Hogs, Flexmills and Flextooth Crushers.
