:: SPCC Upgrade Exceeds Emissions Targets In January 2007, Southern Copper (SPCC) completed a major smelter modernisation project at its Ilo smelter in Southern Peru. The primary goal of this project was to reduce emissions from the copper smelter and to ensure compliance with the Peruvian government's emission targets. The smelter modernisation increased sulfur recapture over the 92% requirement. In doing so, SPCC has not had to reduce any production levels and in fact, the newer smelting and refining technology should enable more efficient production levels.
