:: AngloGold Ashanti Expansion in Brazil AngloGold Ashanti has announced a US$121 million expansion at its Cuiabá mine in south-eastern Brazil. The project will involve deepening the mine to access the Serrontinho and Fonte Grande orebodies, which account for 60% of the total mineral resource at Cuiabá, and the construction of new milling and flotation facilities. The flotation concentrate will be treated at Queiroz, 16 km from the mine, where the leaching facilities will be upgraded and another roaster and acid plant built. The expansion, which will increase annual gold production from 190 000 ounces to 250 000 ounces and extend the mine life by six years, is expected to be completed by the end of 2006, and to reach full production by mid-2007.
