:: MEI Student Award for Ndeke Musee

Stellenbosch University postdoctoral research student, Ndeke Musee is pictured receiving the MEI student award from Professor Leon Lorenzen for the best student poster at Mineral Processing 06, which was held in Cape Town in August.

The prize consists of a free author registration at a forthcoming MEI conference and a ZAR 800 travel award from the South African IMM. His award was for his poster 'Application of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system for prediction of gold recovery during leaching processes'. Ndeke hopes to attend Processing & Disposal of Minerals Industry Wastes 07 to be held at the Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel, Falmouth, UK, in June of next year.

Ndeke, of Kenyan nationality, received his BEd (Maths & Physics) from Egerton University, Kenya, in 1993, an MSc in Physics from the University of Botswana in 2000 and graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering Science from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, in December 2004.

Currently, he is a postdoctoral research student at the University of Stellenbosch. His research interests include: decision support systems, application of artificial intelligence techniques (neural-fuzzy, expert systems, fuzzy set theory, etc) waste and energy management, systems engineering as well as sustainable development-related topics.
