:: New Dean for Tuks faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology Prof. Roelf Sandenbergh has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at the University of Pretoria. He succeeds Prof. Calie Pistorius who has been appointed Vice Chancellor and Rector of the University of Pretoria. Roelf obtained degrees in Chemical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pretoria and in 1974, he joined the University of Pretoria as a lecturer in the Department of Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering. In 1996, he was appointed Head of the Department and in 2001, he was nominated Chairman of the School of Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology. He teaches, conducts research and consults in the fields of Extractive Metallurgy, Corrosion and Failure Analysis. In 1989, Prof. Sandenbergh received a silver medal for excellent publications from the Corrosion Institute of Southern Africa and also from the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1991 and 1997. He also received special recognition as an excellent achiever from the University of Pretoria in 1998 and 2001. His vision is to be the facilitator of the further development of the Faculty as a centre for international excellence that will make significant contributions to the development of South Africa's expertise and human potential.
