:: Eddie Du Rand Appointed CEO of Bateman Engineering
Jonathan Edward (Eddie) Du Rand (46) has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bateman Engineering N.V. and an Executive Director on the Board.
Eddie Du Rand joined the Group in September 2007 as the Managing Director of its Minerals & Metals Business Unit, the largest division of the global Group. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive Officer in March 2008 and as CEO Designate in June 2008 with Dr Sivi Gounden's formal notice of resignation as CEO.
Mr Du Rand has extensive management experience at senior executive and board level in the engineering and construction industries, as well as significant international operational experience in the engineering and construction of capital facilities across the minerals and metals, oil and gas and energy sectors. In the course of his career, he has established substantial business relationships with blue chip clients across these sectors.
Prior to joining the Group, Mr Du Rand was Managing Director of Grinaker - LTA Construction (a construction sector company with operations throughout Africa and the Middle-East), with a turnover in excess of US$1 billion and more than 15,000 employees.
Mr Du Rand qualified in mechanical engineering and attended an executive education programme at Harvard Business School. Chairman of the Bateman Engineering Board, Rick Menell, commented: "The Company is pleased to welcome Eddie as the CEO. Eddie's in depth understanding of the critical imperatives for successful project execution, as well as his demonstrated strategic and leadership acumen will add impetus to the Company's sustainable growth initiatives. Mr Du Rand is supported by the executive committee of Bateman Engineering comprising Chief Financial Officer, Pieter du Plessis; Chief Technology Officer, Steve Burks; CEO of the Bateman Engineered Technologies Strategic Business Unit, Arnold Matthee; and Human Capital Officer, Ben Geldenhuys.
In addition, the Bateman Engineering Group structure has been revised to facilitate greater synergy and co-ordination between the existing Business Units and make the Group's unique source of global expertise more easily accessible to these geographically focused units. The existing Business Units, aligned according to product and service offering, now report into one of three Strategic Business Units as follows: Bateman Engineering Projects comprising currently Sub-Saharan Africa (Martin Smith, MD); Australia / South East Asia (Peter Strimatis, MD); CIS (Yuri Gavrilov, MD); and India (Thys Greef, MD). Bateman Engineered Technologies which includes the Delkor Business Unit with David Minson as MD. Metal Recovery which comprises the Atoll business unit with Peter Scott as MD.
The revised Group structure will also enable each of the Strategic Business Units to focus and expand on their range of service offerings.
