:: MEI Student Award to Case Bakker

University of Cape Town Chemical engineering PhD student Case Bakker walked away with the MEI Award for the best-poster prize at this year's Mineral Processing Conference, held in Cape Town on 6 and 7 August, 2009.

Bakker's presentation "Numerical modelling of cavern formation in a mechanical flotation cell" showed how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling can provide insights into cavern formation in mechanical flotation cells. In his research, he aims to develop a model that can predict the hydrodynamics in flotation cells that contain fine particle slurries, critical information for the mining industry.
