Mintek is pleased to announce the following senior appointments:
Manager: Business Development
John Batty has been appointed Manager: Business Development at Mintek. He was previously Manager: Metallurgy and Mineralogy at SGS South Africa, where he was responsible for the sections dealing with extractive metallurgy (gold and uranium), bioleaching, caustic fusion (diamonds), flotation, and mineralogy.
John, who is a registered Professional Engineer with a BSc (Chemical Engineering) from the University of the Witwatersrand, has more than 25 years’ experience in process metallurgy and research, with particular emphasis on bioleaching technology. He led the commissioning of the Fairview BIOX® plant at Barberton and the introduction of BIOX® technology at Săo Bento in Brazil, and was responsible for all engineering aspects of BHP Billiton’s tank and heap bioleaching technologies.
Nosiphiwo Mzamo has been appointed manager of Mintek’s Mineralogy division. She was previously Superintendent: Mine Services at Foskor Mine in Phalaborwa, with responsibility for the management of geological services, survey and mine planning. Nosiphiwo, who holds a B.Sc. Honours in geology from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, after which she plans to undertake an M.Sc. in mineral beneficiation.
Manager: Small-Scale Mining and Beneficiation
Nirdesh Singh has been appointed manager of the Small-Scale Mining and Beneficiation (SSMB) division at Mintek. Previously he was head of Industrial Minerals of SSMB. Singh, who holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal, began his career at Mintek in 2000 as an engineer in the Measurement and Control division, before joining SSMB in the position of head of Special Projects in 2006.
Mintek’s SSMB division, which was established in 2001, focuses on support and incubation for small-scale enterprises in the minerals sector, with the emphasis on downstream business development and value addition to raw materials.
Head: Internal Audit
Mpho Mathose has been appointed head of Internal Audit at Mintek. Mpho, who is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Information Systems Audit and Control Associations (ISACA), was previously Audit Manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
