The Department of Process Engineering, Stellenbosch University, has lost one of its most devoted and respected colleagues with the passing of Dr Elton Thyse on 14 April 2015. Liked and trusted by all, Dr Thyse's sudden passing at his young age leaves the Department of Process Engineering greatly saddened place.
Dr Thyse, a graduate of the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, completed his MScEng in 2008. He started his PhD on the effect of iron end point on downstream processing of Peirce-Smith PGM Converter matte, which he completed successfully in December 2014. His PhD study combined high temperature thermochemistry, mineralogy, microscopy in a very comprehensive thesis.
He published a number of international journal papers as well as conference proceedings on his work. From 2015 Dr Thyse was appointed as Senior Lecturer in the Department, fulfilling his dream of using his wide knowledge and experience to share with others.
