:: Science Award by the Mining Development Foundation of Turkey

The "Science Award" by the Mining Development Foundation of Turkey was given to Dr. Ata Akcil based on his research on "Chemical and Biological Processes" (May 2004, Dedeman Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey). The award was given for the purpose of encouraging and supporting people or institutions including those who make scientific research and issue publications for the improvement of Turkish mining, those who contribute to the improvement of Mining in Turkey through production or technological inventions, and those who contribute with their services and donations.

The awards given by the foundation can be listed as follows:

• Science awards: Scientific and technological researchers who contribute to development of mining sector may be nominated to this award.
• Service awards: This award is given to an individual and institution for their outstanding efforts in mining fields.
• Encouragement awards: This award is given to encourage the individuals and the institutions in their works.
• Thesis awards: The successful graduate, master and doctorate thesis are awarded among the applications from Turkish Universities.

Mining Development Foundation of Turkey organizes national and international congresses, symposium, seminars and technical trips with respect to developing underground mineral deposits and mining in Turkey. In this context, the Foundation organizes to realize publications, technical and scientific research and contributes to all these activities. The Foundation, related to its objectives, gives scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students from departments of mining, geology, geophysics, metallurgy and petroleum of different universities in Turkey. Foundation also gives financial support to faculty members, engineers, technicians, students and other personnel in their research and education. Foundation also gives support to the organizations related to evaluation and exploration of underground resources of Turkey. Foundation was established on 14th of February 1986 in Istanbul. Foundation tries to develop strategies and plans in co-operation with other organization with respect to development of mining in Turkey. The main target of the Foundation is to clarify public opinion including the administrators in the subject of mining. In addition, it tries to realize production of raw materials for energy, industry and agriculture sectors and to contribute to the Turkish economy for the realization of high valued products.
