:: CIM Rebuilds National Office Staff to Support Growth

Jean Vavrek, Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) is pleased to announce a number of new appointments to its National Office staff. These new appointees will replace a number of long service employees who have left for well deserved retirements or to pursue other opportunities.

Heather Ednie joined the organization full time in December 2003 in the position of Director, Media & Communications, and Editor, CIM Bulletin. Heather brings more than seven years of experience in journalism, writing for industrial publications. She has been a regular contributor of editorial material to CIM. She holds Bachelor's degrees in journalism and history from Concordia University. In her new role, Heather will oversee the revitalization of both print and electronic publications, including the organization's flagship publication, the CIM Bulletin.

Early in 2004, Chantal Murphy was appointed to the position of Meeting Coordinator. Chantal worked for CIM in a similar role from 1992 to 1998, then spent several years working with Laser Registration, a major events coordination support firm, in the position of Director of Registration Services, further developing her expertise. Post secondary education in tourism complements her employment background. Chantal will bring a new level of professionalism to the coordination of all event logistics, registration and accommodation for many of the conferences and events hosted by CIM, its societies, divisions and branches.

On February 9, 2004 Jean Marc Demers will be joining the organization in the position of Director, Commercial Operations. Jean Marc's educational background includes post secondary training in pure and applied science, commerce and math and he brings more than 25 years of experience in marketing, relationship management and industrial sales to CIM. His career has been spent in technical, sales and management roles at a number of major suppliers to the Canadian mining industry, most recently with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in Montreal as National Manager Strategic Maintenance Services. Jean Marc will be responsible for maintaining and developing the ongoing relationships with large CIM corporate members. In addition, he will manage the commercial operations of CIM, overseeing advertising and exhibiting activities.

These new additions to the National Office team are key to helping deliver new and relevant services to the metals and minerals industries.
