:: Preeminent Leaders of the Minerals Industry Awarded

Canada's minerals industry has entered a new era of technology, sustainability and corporate governance, and the individuals leading the pack and leaving their mark were honoured by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) at an Awards Gala on Monday, May 5, at the Shaw Conference Centre during the CIM Conference and Exhibition.

Among CIM’s most prestigious awards, the CIM Distinguished Service Medal was awarded to Howard R. Stockford, of Toronto, Ontario. Mr. Stockford is president of Stockford Consulting. He received this award for his contribution to the minerals industry and tireless dedication to CIM.

The Inco Medal was presented to David B. Dreisinger, professor and chairholder of the Industrial Research Chair in Hydrometallurgy at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia. Dr. Dreisinger received this award for his significant accomplishments in research and development of innovative processes.

In its second year, the Syncrude Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development was awarded to EPCOR Utilities Inc., in recognition for its industry-leading commitment to reduce and offset greenhouse gases as it continues to support clean coal technology through both research and funding.
