:: 2012 AusIMM Awards

 

The AusIMM awards for 2012 were presented at a dinner in Sydney on 15 June. Among the recipients were Des White, Rob Burns, Chris Kelsey and Ben Sedgwick.

 

Des White is a metallurgist. He received the Beryl Jacka award for his contribution to the activities of The AusIMM over a period of more than 60 years. He served on AusIMM committees in Adelaide, Mt Isa, Townsville, Canberra and Sydney, was a member of organising committees for conferences and symposiums and has contributed to technical volumes as a reviewer. He commenced his career at Mt Isa. He has been a consultant for the past 14 years.

Rob Burns is a metallurgist, consultant and board member and was the project leader for The AusIMM's recent and highly acclaimed AMMOP publication. He has also been a member of the AusIMM EEF Board of Trustees since 2001. He received an AusIMM Service Award.

Chris Kelsey's successful nomination for the Mineral Industry Technique Award was supported by the MetSoc committee. Chris is a mechanical engineer and inventor best known for the Kelsey high G-force Jig which most metallurgists are familiar with.

Ben Sedgwick, G B O’Malley Medal recipient

Ben Sedgwick is a member of the MetSoc committee and received the G B O'Malley Medal for his presentation at the 2012 New Leaders' Conference entitled 'Planning your career: setting goals early and moving in the right direction'. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Queensland.
