:: Professor Tim Napier-Munn Awarded the Sir Willis Connolly Memorial Medal for 2015

This is a joint award between the AusIMM and the Barbarians for an outstanding communicator from the broad arena of science, engineering and technology, whose ability to communicate has advanced the professionalism, the industry or management of science, engineering and technology.

2015 has been a significant year for Tim, whose book "Statistical Methods for Mineral Engineers - How to Design Experiments and Analyse Data" was launched in February. The book is based on his world-renowned professional development course on statistics for mineral engineers which has been delivered to over 2000 metallurgists and minerals engineers around the world over the last 20 years. His ability to make advanced statistical techniques accessible and easy to use is well known to MetSoc members and on that basis alone he would qualify as an outstanding technical communicator. However, Tim has many other achievements over his 40+ year career in mineral industry research and development in the public and private sectors in three countries. He is a recipient of the AusIMM President's Award and the IOM3 Futers Gold Medal, and has published over 140 papers and articles, and was editor of the JKMRC 'Blue Book' on comminution and the 7th Edition of Wills' Mineral Processing Technology.
