:: New Chief Executive Officer for AMIRA International
It has been announced that Deming Whitman has joined AMIRA International as Chief Executive Officer.
Deming brings considerable resources industry experience to the role, and is looking forward to the challenge of leading AMIRA International in the challenging environment of the international minerals industry. He shares Council's view that "The industry is under enormous pressure to maximise returns for investment and AMIRA International will continue to provide the means for the industry to achieve superior value for its collaborative research investment,"
AMIRA International has a long history of significant contributions to the minerals industry and is at a very challenging stage in its development as a global provider to that industry. The decision of the Council to go global in the 1990s was a necessary and natural response to the challenges faced by the whole industry. Building on the successful Internationalisation of the past decade is an exciting opportunity for Deming and his team.
Deming has most recently led a consultancy practice which specialises in management systems development and implementation. Prior to consultancy he held a number of executive management positions in both operational and corporate roles during 20 years with WMC Resources Ltd and its predecessors.
Deming holds a BE (Mining) from the University of New South Wales and an MBA awarded jointly by the International Management Institute and University of Geneva. He also holds mine management certificates for Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales and is a Fellow and past Councillor of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
