:: The Zinifex Prize 2005 Awarded to Dr Sergio Vianna Sergio Vianna has been awarded the Zinifex Prize (formerly the Pasminco Prize) for 2005. The prize is awarded annually to the most outstanding postgraduate thesis in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy at the University of Queensland. The Title of his PhD thesis was: The Effect of Particle Size, Collector Coverage and Liberation on the Floatability of Galena Particles in an Ore. Sergio comes from Brazil. He holds a BEng in Mining Engineering from the Federal University of Ouro Preto and an MEngSc in Mineral Processing from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He joined the Flotation Group at the JKMRC in 1997 to study for his PhD which was awarded in November 2004. Sergio became a Project Leader of the Attributes Project (i.e. the Study and Modelling of Floatability Distributions of Mineral Particles in Industrial Flotation Plants using Size-by-Liberation Information) in April 2004 and is working as a Senior Research Fellow for the Flotation Group.
