:: Dee Bradshaw Leaves UCT After More Than 30yrs and Moves to Australia’s JKMRC

Dee started at UCT in 1977 as an undergraduate and continued to do her BSc in Chemical Engineering. After a short time working at Caltex Oil Refinery, Dee joined Cyril ‘ Connor’s initiative in Minerals Research in 1983 - and focused on investigating the behaviour of flotation chemicals for the mining industry.

This led to her PhD in Flotation Chemistry and Dee has been involved in various aspects of the Centre for Mineral Research ever since. In particular she established the Depressant Research Facility with Prof Peter Harris in 1998 and has coordinated research initiatives in Machine Vision with Professors Gerhard de Jager, Fred Nicols and Jon Tapson from the Department of Electrical Engineering as well as in Process Mineralogy with Prof Dave Reid from the Geology Department.

As Cyril noted at her farewell, Dee has been involved in many different aspects of life at UCT and in so doing she has enriched the lives of many others and in turn has been enriched. This has equipped her to take on the Professorial Research Role that she has started at the University of Queensland in Brisbane situated at Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre. The CMR have a very strong collaboration with the JKMRC and so her association will continue at UCT but in a different form.
