:: Wark Winner in South Australian Science Excellence Awards

Prof Stephen Grano (pictured), Coordinator of the Mineral Processing Sector at The Wark, was the recipient of the Excellence in Research Commercialisation Award at the South Australian Science Excellence Awards held on 20 August 2009. This Award recognises commercial success and acceptance achieved through creating an innovative product, process or service.

Stephen currently heads the AMIRA P260 project which celebrated its 20th anniversary of operation in 2008. This project has made a significant contribution to the efficiency of mineral sulphide flotation worldwide and for sponsoring companies, it has addressed problems related to site-specific ore characteristics on at least 20 sites around the world.

In 2007, an evaluation study of the P260 series of projects was conducted by RMDSTEM Ltd, a specialist management consulting group with capabilities in the evaluation of research and development predominately in the resources sector. Results show a return to industry of better than 20:1 for each dollar invested.
