:: Mount Gibson Iron Limited Enters Into Technology Agreement with Ausmelt for Production of Pig Iron

Mr Brian Johnson, Managing Director of Mount Gibson Iron Limited, announced that the Company has entered into an Agreement with Ausmelt Limited to access its AusIron® technology for the production of pig iron.

The technology for direct smelting of both lump and fines iron ore is a variant on Ausmeltís successfully operating furnaces for smelting of base metals, and is currently undergoing trials at a demonstration plant at Whyalla in South Australia. Mount Gibson Iron Limited will have exclusive access to the AusIron process until 1 December 2007, for any pig iron project based on Western Australian iron ore, provided the Company progressively undertakes the necessary preliminary and bankable feasibility studies, and ultimately develops a 500,000tpa production plant.

Mr Johnson said the Company has pursued the agreement after being approached by two international groups interested in developing an iron making plant in the Mid West region of Western Australia, and receiving independent advice on the commercial and technical potential of Ausmeltís coal based iron making technology.

Mount Gibson Iron Limited is now in negotiations with the two groups to form a consortium to review the technical and economic viability of utilising either beneficiated hematite ore from the soon to be acquired Tallering Peak iron deposit near Geraldton or magnetite concentrate from Mt Gibson, and low-cost reductant coal available to the joint venture from Indonesia, in an AusIron furnace.
