:: Jaguar Nickel Establishes Technical Advisory Team to Adapt Existing Ferronickel Process
Jaguar Nickel Inc. has announced it has established a technical advisory team to focus on the adaptation of an existing pyrometallurgical process to produce ferronickel from the Company’s Sechol deposit. The team will act as an objective third party to ensure the process adapts economically to the Sechol deposit.
The team will be led by Mr. Richard Weizenbach, Project Director, and will be comprised of three external senior pyrometallurgical consultants with combined experience of well over 100 years covering all aspects of ferronickel project development.
"Our approach is very cost-effective because it allows us to build a team of ferronickel experts that are available to us on an as-needed basis," says Mr. Weizenbach. “The team members each bring unique knowledge and experience to the Company so we have the right combination of expertise in all stages of ferronickel production as well as access to experience with mineral project development in South and Central America."
The members of the team are Mr. Roland A. Bergman, MaSc., P.Eng., Mr. Pat Raleigh, P. Eng., and Mr. John G. Schofield, Ph.D., P. Eng.
Mr. Bergman is a pyrometallurgist with extensive experience in the development of processes for the recovery of nickel from laterite ores, ferronickel refining and upgrading, as well as environmental programs for ferronickel plant operations, notably with the Falconbridge Limited operation in the Dominican Republic.
Mr. Raleigh has extensive experience as a senior project engineer with Falconbridge at its Falcondo project in the Dominican Republic. He has also consulted for Cerro Matoso and PT Inco in Indonesia. He has worked from exploration to ore reserve calculations to construction on projects such as Loma de Nickel in Venezuela, the Ivory Coast nickel laterite deposit and lately on Falconbridge’s Koniambo deposit in New Caledonia.
Mr. Schofield has over 35 years experience in operations, process technology and engineering of smelting and refining of non-ferrous metals, notably nickel and copper. Of particular benefit to
Jaguar will be Mr. Schofield’s knowledge of nickel laterite smelting drawn from his experience in several ferronickel operations worldwide. He was involved in BHP Billiton’s original Cerro Matoso plant and expansion in Colombia and with Inco’s Exmibal plant in Guatemala, both from engineering through to construction and final production. Other recent engineering studies in which he has been involved include Falconbridge’s Koniambo project in New Caledonia and Anglo American’s Barro Alto project in Brazil.
