Cognis Corp. plans to expand its LIX^® production facilities at Cork in Ireland. The company has recently completed the first phase of the expansion at the plant, and as a result it has substantially increased its ability to produce oxamine-based extractants. The second phase of the expansion is now nearing the end of the engineering process, and Cognis says that the expansion will be commissioned in time to meet the demand from new mining projects that are scheduled for completion over the next few years. As a consequence of the commissioning of the second phase, Cognis will confirm its position as the world's largest producer and supplier of extractants for copper, nickel and other metals.
