MEI Online: Solid-Liquid Separation: Latest News: August 11th 2005 |
|
:: Focus on Centrifuges Complexity and variety in centrifuge design is largely due to a need to dispose of solids collected in the separation zone. In the July/August 2005 issue of Filtration + Separation, Ken Sutherland reviews some ways in which solids are discharged from centrifuges, after either sedimentation or filtration. In the same issue, Nigel Day (pps. 22-24) challenges operatives to look more closely at their centrifuges, as well as the interaction of the process they work with every day. David Atkinson (pps. 26-29) discusses the options available for refurbishing, retrofitting and upgrading existing centrifuges to satisfy a variety of process requirements; namely considerations of cost, operational cleanliness and compliance with national and international legislation. Finally, Bart Peeters et al (pps. 30-33) advocate a detailed investigation of the effect of slurry feed conditions when optimising the performance of a solid bowl decanter centrifuge.
