Filtration and Separation Symposium in collaboration with INCHEM 2001
28-29 November, 2001
Tokyo, Japan

The Filtration Society Japan Association (FSJA) have collaborated with INCHEM TOKYO which was held on November 27-30, 2001 at Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan, and have had the Filtration and Separation Symposium with the co-sponsors, the Society of Chemical Engineers Japan (SCEJ) and the Society of Solid-Liquid Separation Research. The Symposium was held from November 28-29, 2001 at U-Port, Tokyo, Japan.

The papers submitted for the Symposium were presented in 36 oral deliveries, including three keynote speeches shown below:

Keynote Speech 1: Dynamic Analysis of Viscoelastic Gel Particle Slurry Filtration (National Taiwan University) Wei-Ming Lu
Keynote Speech 2: Current Applications and Future Prospects of Ceramic Membrane (NGK Filtech) Hiroshi Hasegawa
Keynote Speech 3: Recent Trend of Filtration and Expression Equipment (BKurita Machinery Mfg. Co. ) BSeiichi Suwa

The presented papers ranged over a variety of the fields of filtration and separation technologies, such as fundamentals; filter media and filter aids; liquid filtration, dewatering, and pre- and post treatment; gas filtration; membrane filtration; bioindustries and food industry; chemical, metallurgical, textile industry, etc.; treatment of drinking water, waste water and sludge; new equipment and novel techniques.

During the first day (November 28), Keynote Speech 1 and 14 presentations were delivered. The presenters were from Japan, Taiwan, China and UK, and spoke in only English except the keynote speech presented in Japanese for Japanese audiences. The second day (November 29) was devoted to Keynote Speeches 2 and 3 and 19 presentations by Japanese presenters. All these speeches were presented in Japanese.

The Symposium attracted about 120 participants from Japan, Taiwan, China and UK and was a great success.
