CIM Student Essay Competition

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) invites you to participate in the CIM Student Essay Competition. Designed to reward and promote excellence, winners are recognized throughout the minerals and energy industries.

This prestigious award gives participants the opportunity to shine as well as to gain invaluable knowledge about their chosen field of endeavour. Many of the students who have participated in the past are now leaders in Canada’s minerals and petroleum industries.

The deadline for entries is February 1st.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Participate by submitting a copy of any major essay or thesis in one of the following categories :

Automation • Coal and Oil Sands • Environment • Geology • Industrial Minerals • Maintenance/Engineering • Metallurgy • Metal Mining • Mineral Economics • Mineral Processing • Petroleum • Rock Mechanic

Winners in each category receive a cash prize of $500, and are announced to Institute members, the industry at large, within their university or college, and to the media. CIM is Canada’s largest organization for professionals in the mineral industry, and winning can be a valuable career asset.

Furthermore, the author of one undergraduate essay will be selected to win the CIM President’s Medal, which includes an additional $500 cash award, plus all-expense paid travel, accommodation and registration to receive the award at the Institute’s annual general meeting.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Participate by submitting Doctorate or Master’s thesis in the following categories:

Geology • Mining • Metallurgy • Petroleum

Winners receive $1,000 for first prize, $500 for second prize.
