André Laplante Memorial Scholarship Dr. André Laplante was internationally renowned as an educator in mineral processing and for his expertise in the area of gravity gold recovery. He is also credited for developing and popularizing the 'gravity recoverable gold' (GRG) test, which is now widely accepted as an industry standard procedure. He made numerous positive contributions to the advancement of the Canadian mineral processing industry, especially in the areas of sampling, testing, teaching, research and development. He was considered a pioneer in developing and creating the industry’s standard characterization methods. He authored and co-authored numerous technical papers and was a widely sought after speaker. He traveled extensively to participate in gravity conferences and seminars and through his tireless efforts he helped bringing gravity concentration back into the mainstream of gold processing. As a tribute for Dr Laplante’s significant contributions to mineral processing and education a $5,000.00 Annual Scholarship has been established in his name for undergraduate students enrolled in a mineral processing related program at a Canadian university or college. The André Laplante Memorial Scholarship is coordinated by the Canadian Mineral Processors (CMP) and administered through the Canadian Mining and Metallurgical Foundation (CIM CMMF). Scholarship Criteria: The Applicant must be a full-time student in a Canadian mineral processing or related program at the undergraduate level (college or university), having completed the first year of academic studies; CIM student membership is not required but CIM members may be given preference over non members; Preference will be given to Canadian Citizens; however, International students attending a recognized Canadian educational institution are welcomed to apply. Application Process: The applicant is requested to submit the following documentation to the CMP Scholarship Committee: 1) Student Statement Letter Application Deadline: The Scholarship Review Committee will evaluate applications during the first half of the year. Each applicant will be notified of the final decision by August 2008. Scholarship funds will be available to the student in the beginning of the fall semester.
