:: China Non Ferrous Opens Chambishi Copper Smelter

China Non Ferrous Metals Co. Ltd. opened its Chambishi smelter in Zambia that will process up to 150,000 metric tons of copper a year, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The Chambishi plant situated near the town of Kitwe, 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the capital, Lusaka, will initially employ 600 people and process copper from surrounding mines, the Lusaka-based, state-owned broadcaster said. The plant’s capacity may be increased to 250,000 tons next year to cater for anticipated demand, ZNBC said.
