The 6th International Seminar on Copper Hydrometallurgy, HydroCopper 2011, was held from 6 to 8 July 2011 in Sheraton Miramar Hotel, in Viña del Mar, Chile. Over 300 delegates attended the event, which discussed recent innovations and technological developments in the processing of hydrometallurgical copper ores.

Technical highlights

The sixth version of HydroCopper included 40 technical presentations made by outstanding authors from 13 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Spain, Finland, South Africa and the United States. The areas covered by the seminar were hydrometallurgical processing of low grade oxide, sulphide ore and copper concentrates; innovations and best operating practices; agglomeration, heap and dump leaching; solvent extraction and electrowinning; solutions treatment and heap closing; modelling, instrumentation and automation; new projects and plant expansions; as well as industrial case studies and new projects.

Some of the most remarkable presenters were Jennifer Defreyne from Teck Resources, Canada; Yuri Zepeda from Xstrata Lomas Bayas, Chile; John Peacey from Queen’s University, Canada; and Dr. Corby Anderson, from Colorado School of Mines, USA, among others.
