The first ever demonstration series bioreactor plant in India was inaugurated and commissioned at the Hutti Gold Mines, Hutti, Raichur, Karnataka State on February 9, 2002. This project was undertaken by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology,Government of India and the Hutti Gold Mines Company Limited. The Demonstration Bioreactor plant is established to demonstrate bioprocessing of gold-silver bearing sulfide concentrates, although this facility can be used for bioreactor leaching of copper, zinc,nickel and other base-metal concentrates.
