Russel Mineral Equipment (RME) believes that it is set to "revolutionise" the South African gold-mining industry with the introduction of its mill relining equipment. The company has supplied Western Areas Ltd's 50%-owned South Deep mine with its mechanised mill relining equipment. According to RME, mill relining is the single greatest cause of mill downtime, and in some operations this can cost up to US$250,000/h in lost production.

RME says that the use of its relining systems has been demonstrated to halve the time it takes to reline a mill manually. At South Deep, RME's Seven Axis mill relining machine is being used to reline an 8 m diameter mill.
