:: SNC-Lavalin and Minerconsult Awarded EPCM Contract for Barro Alto Ferro-Nickel Project

SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that, along with local partner Minerconsult Engenharia, it has signed a US$100 million contract with Anglo American Brasil Ltda to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) for a greenfield ferro-nickel plant near Barro Alto, in the state of Goi=E1s, 170 km to the northwest of Brasilia, Brazil.

The EPCM contract also includes project management and related technical services for expansion work on the mine's existing infrastructure and operations. Capital cost of the new metallurgical facility and mine expansion is over US$1 billion.

Detailed engineering and procurement work on the Barro Alto plant began in January. Construction will begin in November, with production start up scheduled for the first quarter of 2010. Once its design capacity has been reached in 2011, the proposed Barro Alto facility will produce approximately 36,000 tons /year of ferro-nickel.
