Old diamond tailings dumps contain reject material deposited over many years, when the diamond recovery processes were not as efficient as they are today. These dumps contain meaningful amounts of small diamonds, and the possibility of finding larger stones. Current methods for retreating these dumps are discussed in Issue 4 (2004) of Mining Review Africa (pp. 9).
