The idea of a factory turning out gem-quality diamonds at a fraction of the cost of naturally occurring stones is one that must make the men at De Beers pause momentarily. There have been reports in the US media of companies who are manufacturing gem-quality diamonds, which, according to some reports, are visually almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
