:: Alrosa Extracts $1 Million Diamond

Russia’s state monopoly Alrosa has extracted a unique diamond weighing 145.44 carats and worth around $1 million, the company said.

The diamond extracted from the Yubileinaya mine had dimensions of 35 mm by 20 mm by 26 mm. It has the form of an octahedron, clear with a yellow tinge.

In October last year, Alrosa produced from the same mine a diamond weighing 888.15 carats, the fourth largest extracted in Russia.

Alrosa is Russia's largest diamond miner, accounting for about 25 percent of world production and 97 percent of all diamonds mined in Russia.
